YANNICK PERICHON

For the past couple of years, I have been essentially looking at discarded and lost objects
reappearing metamorphosed by their many months, if not years, spent in the sole care of
mother nature. I would carve their partial yet elegant shapes into stone in an attempt to
give them more meaning and purpose than when they were initially manufactured.

The small collection of sculptures I am carving for this year’s Town Farm Art Show reflects this interest in the lost and abandoned object. Primarily inspired by the Japanese
minute and intricate ivory carvings known as 'Netsuke', I have chosen to work with smaller
stones , mainly alabaster for its delicate translucency and its fine marble-like grain. Smooth
and soft, the carvings carry the delicate memory of something that is barely there, calling for the
viewer’s gentle touch, for there is more to feel than there is to see.
